recommendsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Facebook. We cannot recommend Martin & Tricia highly enough. They have kept our holiday cottage carpets in ‘brand new’ condition for years. They’ve also treated our mattresses and will be cleaning our curtains in situ shortly. They’re so professional and helpful, we wouldn’t trust anyone else 😊

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 5 star service from Cleaning Doctor South Devon. It’s the second time I’ve used Tricia and Martin to clean our carpets and rugs. The service and result is amazing and well priced. They work so well as a couple and also give great advice regarding moth proofing certain areas. Having a young Labrador, who is allowed everywhere, my buttermilk carpets were definitely turning into more of a Devon red muddy colour, a few hard working hours from Cleaning Doctor and they are buttermilk colour again. I cannot thank them enough, the result is incredible and I would never have thought they could clean them to get that result. They are such lovely people too. Don’t even think about using anyone else. Thanks Tricia and Martin and love from Willow 🐾🐾🙏🏼

Professional protection shields your investment in South Devon.

Red Wine & Coffee

Liquids bead up on the surface instead of soaking in, giving you crucial time to blot spills before they become permanent stains.

Extends Carpet Life

Protection against wear, UV damage, and soil build-up significantly extends the lifespan of your carpets and upholstery.

Makeup & Cosmetics

Daily maintenance becomes simpler as dirt and spills sit on the surface rather than penetrating deep into fibres.

Blood & Bodily Fluids

Ink & Paint

Save money long-term by reducing frequency of deep cleaning and preventing permanent damage that requires replacement.

Food & Grease

Repels Liquids

Water-based and oil-based liquids are repelled equally well, protecting against everything from coffee to cooking oil.

Maintains Appearance

Keeps your carpets and upholstery looking fresh and new for longer, maintaining your home.*s pristine appearance.

Our Process

Professional Protection Application

We apply industry-leading protection products that create an invisible barrier on your carpets and upholstery.

1. Identification & Treatment

We inspect your carpets and upholstery to ensure they are clean and determine the best protection product for your specific fabric type and usage requirements.

Surface Assessment: Determines compatibility

Product Selection: Best protection formula

Coverage Planning: Even application strategy

2. Application & Absorption

We spray the stain protector evenly across your carpet or upholstery and then work it deep into the fibres, using a broom for carpets or a terry towel for upholstery, ensuring complete coverage and maximum absorption.

Even Spray: Complete, consistent coverage

Worked Into Fibres: Massaged in for maximum protection

Warning

DIY products leave uneven coverage.

Professional Quality

Superior to retail products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about stain protector application.

What is stain protector and how does it work?

Stain protector is a specialised treatment that creates an invisible barrier around carpet and upholstery fibres. This barrier repels liquids and prevents them from immediately soaking into the fabric, giving you crucial time to blot up spills before they become permanent stains. The protector also makes regular vacuuming more effective by preventing dirt from bonding to fibres.

How long does stain protector last?

Professional stain protector typically lasts between 12-18 months under normal household conditions. However, longevity depends on foot traffic, cleaning frequency, and the type of protector used. High-traffic areas may need reapplication more frequently. We recommend reapplying stain protector after every professional deep clean for optimal protection.

Is stain protector safe for children and pets?

Absolutely! We use only eco-friendly, non-toxic stain protection products that are completely safe for children, pets, and people with allergies. Our products are water-based and contain no harmful chemicals. Once dry (typically within 2-4 hours), the treated surface is safe for normal use.

Can stain protector be applied to all types of carpets?

Yes, our stain protector can be safely applied to most carpet types and upholstery fabrics, including wool, nylon, polyester, and cotton blends. However, we always conduct a test patch first to ensure compatibility with delicate or specialty fabrics. Some materials like silk or certain antique fabrics may require specialised treatments.

Does new carpet already have stain protection?

Many new carpets do come with factory-applied stain protection, but this protection begins to wear off immediately with use and cleaning. Most carpet manufacturers recommend reapplying stain protector within 6-12 months of installation, and definitely after the first professional cleaning. Additionally, factory protection may not cover all areas evenly, especially along seams and edges.

What's the difference between professional and DIY stain protector?

Professional stain protector provides superior coverage and longevity compared to retail products. Our commercial-grade formulas penetrate deeper into fibres and create a more durable barrier. We also use specialised application equipment that ensures even distribution without over-wetting. DIY products often leave uneven coverage, can cause sticky residue, and may void carpet warranties if not applied correctly.

When should I reapply stain protector?

We recommend reapplying stain protector in these situations: after every professional deep cleaning (as the cleaning process removes the existing protector), when you notice spills absorbing more quickly than before, in high-traffic areas after 12 months, or if you have an important event coming up and want maximum protection. Regular reapplication maintains optimal stain resistance and extends your carpet's lifespan.
